Spirit Bear Lodge Celebrates 25 Years

As Spirit Bear Lodge prepares for the 2026 season, we are proud to celebrate a major milestone our 25th anniversary.

This special year honors the growth and history of Spirit Bear Lodge, from our early days at the red float house to the expansion of the lodge and tours we offer today. We are also reflecting on the early days of tourism, including guided tours aboard the Queen of Chilliwack, and the many people who helped shape our journey.

As part of the celebration, we invite community members and past staff to share photos from over the years as we create a commemorative slideshow to mark this milestone.

BC Reconciliation Award 2025

In partnership with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, we are honoured to announce the recipients of the BC Reconciliation Award 2025. This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate integrity, leadership, and dedication in advancing the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, and in strengthening relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Deanna Duncan (H̀búkvs λamalayu) of Klemtu, a 2025 award recipient. Through her commitment and work, she continues to inspire progress and meaningful change.

Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement.

Kitasoo Forest Company Update

Kitasoo Forest Company is currently in the planning stages for a helicopter harvesting project on Pooley and Susan Islands. Depending on market conditions, harvesting could begin as early as fall 2026.

Before any operations move forward, proposed blocks will undergo thorough assessments, including terrain stability, fish habitat, cultural sites, visual impacts, and monumental cedar. The project will also be reviewed by the Stewardship Advisory Committee and Band Council leadership.

These steps help ensure forest management decisions balance economic, cultural, community, and ecological priorities
