The Kitasoo/Xai’xais territory contains some of the last remaining intact, pristine, coastal temperate rainforest on the planet. This environment is home to rare and endangered species of marine and terrestrial wildlife. Some areas of the territory must be kept off-limits to destructive resource development. The Resource Stewardship Department has helped to establish many new conservancies resulting in over 50% of Kitasoo/Xai’xais territory now being designated as protected area.
