Position Summary

Under the direction of the Kitasoo Xai’Xais Stewardship Authority Director or Designate, the Community Based Fishery Coordinator (CBF) will assist in connecting with the community to educate community members about the community-based fishery program, conduct surveys one on one with potential participants and disseminate information about CBF programs and services. This is a Temporary Contract Position aimed at providing on the ground support to community members that are interested in pursuing careers in fishing or other aspects of the business. This position will start out as temporary part time with an opportunity for an extension as budgets allow. Connecting with the community is the primary focus of this position.

Position Description

Under the direction of the Community Based Fishery Steering Committee the CBF will be responsible for:
 Liaising with key community organizations and stakeholders that will be responsible for activities and decisions related to the implementation and ongoing operations of a Community Based Fishery (CBF);
 Assisting with community engagement aimed at determining the number of people interested in participating in CBFs, and identifying the skills, capacity and equipment possessed by the interested parties;
 Helping to engage community members (fishers) and their relevant organizations to scope the types and quantity of licenses and quota desired to support the CBF over the next five (5) years;
 Helping to conduct an inventory of existing licenses and quota available through otherprocesses e.g., PICFI, ATP;
 Where required, supporting the Nation in modifying and developing Nation specific communications materials and presentations to support outreach;
 Assisting with organizing regular meetings with the Nation and existing organizationsand stakeholders to ensure there is a clear understanding of the work requirements necessary to develop and implement community-based fisheries;
 Creating community awareness and soliciting community feedback about fishery reform options and approaches;
 Supporting the development of regional marketing and branding strategies for the broader fisheries initiative;
 Report to Stewardship Director or Designate on progress and other relevant duties;
 Perform other duties related to the position as may be requested by the Stewardship Director or Designate from time to time;
 Adhere to the Code of Conduct as contained in the Operations Manual;
 Encourage and foster a team spirit within the Department and the Kitasoo BandOperations in general;
 Compliance with the Stewardship Authority Department provisions and with theprovisions of the Operations Manual.

Qualifications:

 Related field or equivalent training and experience in the fisheries field;
 Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, presentation and management skills in the areas of time, data and people;
 Dependable, enthusiastic, versatile and responsible;
 Collaborative, yet decisive and able to work independently;
 Strong work ethic, organizational, financial and time management skills;
 Effective relationship builder exercising tact, sensitivity and discretion at all times;
