Kitasoo Development Corporation - June 2023 Newsletter

Message from The Manager

I am pleased to provide you with an update on our achievements over the past year. It is with great pride and gratitude that I share the remarkable progress we have made in advancing our shared goals and strengthening our community.

Throughout the year, the KDC has been at the forefront of driving positive change and fostering harmonious relationships within the Kitasoo Xai’xais Nation. We have successfully facilitated over 15 joint community meetings, focused on key areas such as finfish aquaculture, forestry, liquor, and cannabis. These meetings have provided a platform for open dialogue, enabling us to deepen our understanding and forge a unified path forward.

In addition to our community engagement efforts, the KDC has been actively involved in various projects aimed at enhancing the well-being of our community. From minor renovations to the creation of functional spaces that meet the needs of our community members, to the strategic planning of a new community store, we have focused on delivering tangible improvements. These endeavors exemplify our dedication to creating a sustainable and prosperous future for all.

Moreover, our joint lobbying efforts with the Kitasoo Xai’xais Nation Council (KXNC) and First Nations for Finfish Stewardship (FNFFS) have yielded significant outcomes in advocating for finfish stewardship. By collaborating closely with our partners, we have successfully secured additional time for Nation-to-Nation dialogue. This achievement showcases our collective commitment to safeguarding our community’s interests and emphasizes the strength that lies within our united front.

As we look ahead, the KDC remains steadfast in our commitment to promoting sustainable development, nurturing relationships, and championing the aspirations of our community. By continuing to work hand in hand with the Kitasoo Xai’xais Nation Council, we will create lasting value and drive positive change in our territory.

Respectfully,

Isaiah Robinson, General Manager
