Position Overview:
The Lead Hand Carpenter provides on-site leadership and performs skilled carpentry work in accordance with Red Seal Occupational Standards, Canadian building codes, and project specifications. This role acts as the on-site supervisor when the Construction Manager is not present, ensuring work progresses safely, efficiently, and to quality standards while supporting crew coordination and apprentice development.
Location: Klemtu, BC
Wage: $50 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
• Act as the on-site lead for a crew of carpenters, apprentices, and labourers (typically 2–4
workers).
• Plan, delegate, and oversee daily work tasks to maintain efficient workflow and adherence to
project schedules and budgets.
• Perform hands-on carpentry and general construction work, including framing, finishing,
formwork, renovations, and related activities.
• Read, interpret, and apply architectural and structural construction drawings, including
foundations, floor plans, details, and sections.
• Conduct basic material takeoffs and plan ahead to ensure required materials are available across
shifts.
• Communicate daily with the Construction Manager regarding progress, site conditions, issues, and
material needs.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable building codes, including BC Building Code (Section 9),
company quality standards, and safety regulations.
• Enforce health and safety requirements and promote a safety-first work culture on site.
• Support and mentor apprentices, contributing to skill development in line with apprenticeship
requirements.
• Identify and assist in resolving on-site issues related to materials, workmanship, scheduling,
or safety.
• Maintain job site organization, cleanliness, and professional conduct in accordance with company
standards.
• Comply with all company policies, including HR, safety, and zero-tolerance substance
policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Construction Manager.
Qualifications:
• Journeyperson carpenter or equivalent experience in residential construction; Red Seal
certification is preferred. Demonstrated experience leading small crews on active construction
sites.
• Strong working knowledge of Canadian building codes, standard construction practices, and
occupational health and safety requirements.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills to support effective on-site
coordination.
• Ability to work effectively in remote and coastal environments, including variable weather
conditions.
• Experience operating heavy equipment (including telehandlers and excavators) is considered an
asset but not required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
