Kitasoo Band Council – Seasonal On-Call Snow Removal Technician

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Public Works Department Manager and the Band General Manager, the Seasonal On-Call Snow Removal Technician is responsible for maintaining safe roads during winter months by clearing the roads and/or sidewalks; operating and maintaining Band Owned Vehicles, operating and maintaining equipment, while ensuring all safety norms and regulations are met.

Responsibilities Include:
a. Perform Winter maintenance including snow clearing, ice blading, winging back snow on Community roads, Ferry road, Terminal, Terminal sidewalks and clearing Community parking lots, blending of salt and sand, documentation of usage of sand;
b. Work in collaboration with the Department in the de-icing and removal of snow from walks, driveways and parking lots for various residential and commercial properties according to the specified contracts;
c. Operate a vehicle to perform winter maintenance including maintaining vehicle;
d. Proficiently and safely use snow removal equipment such as shovels, plows, skid loaders, vehicles with plow blades, and other power and manually operated tools and equipment used to perform snow removal;
e. Ensure equipment maintenance including light maintenance, oil changes, greasing, other related equipment maintenance;
f. Maintain and care for personal and/or company provided equipment, tools and vehicles;
g. Perform safe operations of equipment in all weather conditions;
h. Safely and appropriately distribute de-icing solutions, including calcium chloride or rock salt;
i. Perform safe working conditions including specific attention and concentration to volume and frequency of snow/ice, safety of equipment while performing highly physical work outdoors on a consistent basis in all weather conditions, specifically very cold, icy, weather including snow and high winds while ensuring safety standards are met;
j. Maintain a clean and safe job site, while ensuring current landscape and property is not damaged in the efforts of removing snow;
k. Ensure cold weather gear including safety gear is used appropriately to protect against adverse weather conditions;
l. Work as part of a team and take direction;
m. Represent the company’s best interest, while maintaining the highest level of integrity and professionalism;
n. Meet contract scheduled deadlines to ensure customer service quality;
o. Keep accurate timesheet records, submit for review for authorization by the required deadlines;
p. Comply with all safety norms and regulations set by the industry;
q. Adhere to the Code of Conduct as contained in the Operations Manual;
r. Encourage and foster a team spirit in the operations in general;
s. Carry out other requests relevant to the position from the Band General Manager or Public Works Department Manager from time to time.

Qualifications:
• Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines;
• Must be Available (On Call) 24 Hours/7 Days a Week from First Snowfall to March 2018;
• Ability to demonstrate skills to operate and maintain band owned vehicles and equipment;
• Valid BC Driver’s license with a clean abstract;
• Must be reliable and able to respond to any snow event without conflict of interest or other obligations and be able to work irregular shifts and extended hours as required;
• Mechanically inclined would be an asset;
• Ability to follow direction and work unsupervised;
• Deal with the public in a positive, courteous and respectful manner;
• Must have good problem solving skills, able to team work, be punctual, self-motivated, self-driven and flexible.
